Archie Marshall

  • Knee Injuries

“ Kansas basketball fans will remember the 1988 championship team and one of its important members, Archie Marshall. Follow the injuries Archie received starting in the semifinal game of the NCAA final four in Dallas in 1986 while playing Duke. He progresses and returns to play only to be hurt in January 1988 at Madison Square Garden playing St. John's on the opposite knee. His potentially brilliant career was cut short.

Archie's knees have done great and he is continued to be active without problem up to this point. He has had a successful career working for Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. He now lives in Dallas.

Says Archie "Strange as it may seem to say, I actually got a lot of life experience out of my knee injuries. The trials I went through with them helped me build on personality aspects that were useful in later life. And, my knees are fine now! Watch this interesting video that "Doc" has put together about those injuries.”

Sheryl Phillips

  • Knee Surgery

“My knees have been a lifelong problem. I was just "blessed" with bad knees. I'm so thankful to be able to walk now. Watch this video to see what my knees look like before the operation and how they look now.”

Tom Quick

  • Arthroscopy of the Shoulder

“Tom Quick was a KU football player, quarterback switch to wide receiver, and caught a beautiful touchdown pass in the 1984 Kansas University upset of Troy Aiman-led Oklahoma University football team. Before that season started however, he was a quarterback who could not throw because of shoulder pain which led to an arthroscopy, the first shoulder arthroscopy performed by Dr Wertzberger.

I was Dr. Wertzberger's first arthroscopy of the shoulder. I haven't had a shoulder problem since. It didn't keep me at quarterback, but things have worked out pretty well anyway. Watch this interesting video of my arthroscopy of the shoulder done 30 years ago at the very infancy of the procedure.”

“Ken Wertzberger, MD, surgically repaired Simien's knee when the star was in the 8th grade and later at KU, ultimately helping the former Leavenworth star lead the Jayhawks to the Final Four in 2002 and 2003, and onto a career in the NBA.”

“Dr. W.

I just wanted to say "Thanks for getting me back in the game." Less than one year after my knee surgery, at age 49, I finished my first triathlon.

Bryan Trout, D.V.M.”

“In the past 35 years, I have seen for orthopedic surgeons, resulting in seven surgeries. Dr. Wertzberger has done five of my surgeries, and I would/will return to him again. Dr. Wertzberger and Shane are the greatest! My new knees are wonderful!”
